How I freed up the wheels on my wagons...

I have these 10 wagons that I cannot use and it seems a shame to just box them or even use them as scrapped wagons on the layout, especially when I remember how much I had paid for them.

Today I decided to investigate why these wagons are so stiff on the track and will stop within a couple of inches when I push them individually down a slope. I asked around and received many great ideas but one really struck home and on investigating, I found that the wheels inside the wheel-wells are rubbing on the body mounts which extend beyond the bottom of the chassis and eventually rub on the wheels. Bad design I would say, as you can easily see where the wheel was rubbing, in the image (top left wheel-well).

So out came the dremel....

and polished those body mounts away from the bottom of the wheel-wells. Now, I can hear some of you say that the body will break free without them. So far the body is still in its place, on all 10 wagons, and if the body decided to come off the chassis, I'll glue it permanently in place. I have no reason to ever remove it, anyway!

and here you can see the class 50 pulling all the wagons up the incline as I have never seen it do before. It always struggled before this day but now it climbs the incline as if there was nothing attached at the back

Now I am happy with these 10 wagons. I always cringed whenever I looked at them wondering what I will do with them. What a transformation for a 30-minute job
