Parts arrived and now it's time to assemble the class 66 and send it around the track again.

As I said in my part one of this job, I did not want to buy a new motor complete with flywheels for the price of €25. Instead, I bought FIVE motors for the price of under €8 including shipping but without flywheels. I had to buy a tool (under €4) to remove the flywheels, but that is a one time expense and it still worked out less than €25, plus I had the pleasure of doing it all myself, which, for me, is what the hobby is all about.

The old motor snapped a brush mounting as seen in the image below.

I was going to throw it all out but decided to keep it in case I needed an armature

So I started assembling by reversing the process in part one. First in was the motor, after removing the flywheels from the old motor and installing them on the new motor.

Then assembled the chassis using the two clips circled in the image below and one screw, also circled, holding it all together below.

The next step was to install the circuit board.

The most tricky part was putting the cabs in place. Remember, they were held in place with some sticky goo, but after some fiddling about, it all fell into place.

Before going any further, I stripped out the bogies and cleaned them all out. Then tested it all with a DC supply.

I then inserted a decoder and configured it from scratch.

All was good so I put the body on and put it on the track to set up a speed measurement test, followed by braking and acceleration settings.

and here is a short running session for this loco
