Building the main level baseboard.

The time has come for me to start working on the main level baseboard. I started with the main structure that will hold up the baseboard.

The structure is all reclaimed wood. It was an old project that I no longer need and so instead of throwing it all out, I cut it all the planks up into 3cm*4cm lengths.

I thought it would be easier to do this, but I soon learnt that there is a lot more to it than simply glueing and screwing wood together.

I noticed this when I covered the top with sheets of styrene I had. It was simulating what it would look like once I cut up some plywood and placed it on the top. Ran some trains and quickly realised that I could hear them but not see them (duh!!) and it made me feel somewhat uncomfortable.

It got a lot worse when there was an issue and could not immediately see where and what the problem was. To solve the derailment or shorted turnout, I had to remove the layer of styrene that was not allowing me to see what was happening below and quickly came to the conclusion that I will need quick access in the future should this happen again (and it WILL happen again) I also took the opportunity to extend the depth of the main level because bigger is always better

I had the main light switch in that corner, along with the water heater switch, flow pump switch and the air conditioner switch. These had to be relocated onto the divider I put up to divide the layout from the main entrance. I will be covering the wires with an all-around background sheet, which for now I will be painting sky blue. Maybe on a good day, I'll add some clouds

You may have noticed, even in the previous picture, that I have started building level 1. Level 1 will be a twin lane for slow moving longish freight trains, twisting and turning around the room and around some rocks. Never liked a very straight track.

This is where the trains enter and exit the fiddle yard on the main level, depending on which direction they are travelling. You can also see level one being built.

Some more level one work going on here.

And this is the last picture I took of level one before I finished it.

Have quite a few odds and ends to do before I finally decide on the size of the main level board I need to cut.
