The Industrial Area DMU Station

I wanted to have more than one station on my layout but it is not big enough to have them, hence the fiddle yard, where the trains vanish into another world and come back after a while, just like the real world.

I have recently bought two Class 142 DMUs which I want to use to transport "people" from the central station to the industrial areas. Since the main lines on my layout are all dual-track, I plan to have a DMU going in each direction.  Since most residential and industrial buildings will be accessed from the upper level, there was a need for a small station to cater for the DMUs only without keeping the main line occupied for a long time while the DMUs stopped at the platform.

It all started like this:

After laying the cork underlay, I marked off where the points were to be installed, as close to the bend as possible but not right on the bend.

After installing the first point, I added the main line to the next point.

and then installed the exit point.

followed by the siding. As you can see, the siding is only long enough to host the DMU. It can stop there for as long as needed while other trains pass by it uninterrupted.

Obviously, before glueing anything to the cork, everything is wired with dropper cables.

With one side of the track ready, I clamped a piece of wood down to align the next point to be installed at the same position. Keeping it parallel to the other line was simple by using the Peco spacer on the straight part of the point track..

Then the main line segment of the track is followed by the last of the points in this station.

I extended the main line around the bend at the far end of the picture to be able to push test some wagons around the bends, along the new main line of the station and over the points.

and here is the end product. Very happy with the result

Here are the two DMUs in their respective sidings with some "traffic" passing through the station on the main line.
