Class 33 motor replacement.

Another Dapol motor died. Very disappointing.

I wish to find a matching motor on Aliexpress for this Dapol like I found the ones for most Farish locos. The Farish ones cost me under €8 for 5 motors. They come without the flywheels, but it is a simple job to remove them from the old motor and install them on a new one. I got a replacement motor from Peter Spares, which cost me over €35 including shipping and customs fees.

Moving on............

The first thing I did was to dismantle the loco to be able to get to the motor. While it was in pieces, the obvious thing to do was to clean the parts and service the gears.

After servicing it, I started by installing the motor, drive shafts and worm gears in place before attempting to close off the second half of the chassis and clip it in place.

Now that it's assembled, it was time to start the wiring, but before that, I tried a 12v DC supply direct to the motor. Worked perfectly. So I installed the PCB in place after finding some spare screws I needed, because I misplaced the originals.

I started by soldering the motor wires.

Then soldered the feed from the track through the split chassis.

Here is the side with the motor soldered (had to swap these over later on)

and here is the track feed done.

Tested it with a DC blanking plate on a DC test track.

and here is the result of this 2-hour job (including tea breaks)
