Constructing the Engine Shed from Scratch - Part 1

It's time to embark on constructing the engine shed, a project I've eagerly anticipated. The abundance of windows planned for this building excites me, and utilizing the Cricut Maker 3 will significantly streamline the process compared to manually cutting styrene. After spending approximately 3 hours, the Maker 3 has diligently carved out the design I meticulously drafted. Prior to this, I iteratively tested the drawing by cutting paper prototypes multiple times. Once satisfied with the final design, I confidently proceeded to cut it out on styrene.

The initial step involved detaching the primary components from the sheet secured to the cutting mat. While certain elements such as windows and doors effortlessly separated, other components proved more resistant and clung firmly to the main pieces. For these, assistance from a sharp knife was required to facilitate their removal.

After numerous cutting attempts, this is the outcome. I'm still in the process of identifying the right material settings in the Cricut software to ensure a sufficiently deep cut for easier part removal. Upon successfully detaching the components, I took the time to refine the cuts for the doors and windows. It's evident that the upcoming task of cutting and installing these features will be an enjoyable challenge.

I temporarily assembled the model using masking tape to get a preview of its real-life appearance.

Of course, I couldn't resist testing it on the layout.

Be sure to catch part 2 (now found here), where I'll be bonding all the walls and internal supports together.

Stay tuned and don't forget to register for post updates...
