Today I decided to start working on the hoist that will lift the layout.

First thing I needed to do is to place the base in the correct position and hold it in place while I marked the ceiling where the pulleys will be hung.

I clamped wood to the base frame and extended it to the closest obstacle to it.

I did the same for all sides

Here too

On this wall I have a shelf about 12 inches above the height of the layout. To make sure I clear the shelf when lifting the frame, I hung a plumb line from the shelf and used that as the "wall" as I did for the other sides.

If the other 3 sides clear everything, then this will not be a problem. Worst case, I can move that red LC70 elsewhere.

I drilled holes in the frame through which a 6mm rope will go through and will carry the weight of the layout at each corner. I once again hung a plumb line in every corner right in front of the holes I drilled. Marked off the ceiling (a few times too haha) and then drilled the ceiling and hung some rawlbolts with a pulley attached.

Tomorrow I will get some rope and hopefully it will be easier to get into the room once I can lift the layout out of the way.

Stay tuned and don't forget to register for post updates...
