So I bought some 2 inch polystyrene for the train layout.

I laid down some 2 inches of polystyrene over the plywood platform. This will help in a couple of ways

1. It should muffle up the steel wheels running on steel rails on the plywood platform. Not looking for silence, but it should sound better.

2. I can dig and cut down into the polystyrene to create a small lake which I plan to do in the middle of the layout, to cover the man hole. It will be easier to lift the lid out of the way, and by keeping it low (the lake) there will be less to get damaged when I lift it out of the way. It will also help to dig a small river coming from the mountain that I plan to cover the helix with, and the smaller streams off to the side with tiny bridges for the rails and a road.

In episode 2 of my build series, I plan to show you this and some tracks being laid... will post more here when I publish it.
