Scratch building a row of 4 houses.

Inspired by the nostalgia of my childhood home, I decided to scratch build the house I had such a happy childhood in, which we sadly lost in a fire. I took a trip to Google street view and decided to go for 4 houses. The next two images are the real houses as they stand today.

Starting with some 2mm styrene, I started marking and cutting out some doors and windows.

The first part was easy, but little did I know what I let myself in for. The bay windows are a nightmare to make and the windows are only 7mm wide. Do I cut the 7mm out, hoping the window frame survives the task or do I simply chop off the bottom and top part and cut some 1mm strips for the sides?

I decided to give it a go and cut up the 7mm windows because I'm a glutton for punishment!!! Not too shabby if I say so myself   I also built the other balcony for the other two houses, the last house on the right being mine

Next, I gave the houses some 3D effects, around the windows and doors…

and above each floor to indicate where the floor is in each level, plus it gives a nice 3D effect

Still have to paint all this, followed by window installation…
