How to set up your z21 on your home network (The easy way)

I am assuming that all z21 models use the same setup. I am doing this on a z21 Start. I don’t think that Roco bothered to set the different models different from each other. Here is the easy way.

To be able to use your phone and/or your tablet on the internet while connected to your TP-Link router, you will need a length of CAT5e cable with an RJ45 termination at each end. You can make your own or get one made at your local computer shop. Plug one end of the cable into one of your home network ports and the other end in the WAN port (the blue one) at the back of your TP-Link router.

After a few seconds of doing this, you will notice that the middle LED on the front of the TP-Link router that flashed constantly in orange, will turn permanently green. This indicates that the z21 network is now also connected to the internet.

Any wired and/or wireless device that is connected to the TP-Link router will now have access to both the z21 controller via the device app and the internet. This includes any laptop, computer, mobile and/or tablet.

Once you roam away from the TP-Link router and connect to your home WIFI network, that device will no longer connect to the z21. You will need to go back to the TP-Link router range and reconnect.

If you are looking for a way to set up your z21 to be accessible from all over your home network and eliminating the use of the TP-Link router, I've posted about this HERE
