The oval helix... I have decided that the best way to get 20cm of clearance between the fiddle yard and the main layout is to build a helix. Unfortunately, there's no room for a regular round helix on the 70cm debt there is on the baseboard, so I'm not going to build one oval helix, but I'm going to build TWO I designed it on a scrap of wood and drove off to a friend with carpentry tools. I gave him the measurements and he cut up some 9mm plywood all 8cm wide. After a couple of hours, I was home building my first helix All I can tell you is that it is coming along very nicely and with a gradient of 1:50.
